Analysis

This ordinance establishes a railroad quiet zone, within which the blowing of train horns is prohibited, along the Canadian Pacific Railroad’s mainline track between Milepost 85.18 and Milepost 85.68, with the exception of the area along the Canadian Pacific Railroad movable swing bridge (B-316 ½) over the Menomonee River, and the area along the Amtrak station.

Body

The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Part 1.  Section 105-25-0 of the code is amended to read:

105-25.  Railroad Quiet [[Zone]] >>Zones<<.

Part 2.  Section 105-25-1 of the code is repealed and recreated to read:

1.  DEFINITION.  In this section, “quiet zone” refers to the following areas where the blowing of train horns for non-emergency purposes is prohibited:

a.  The area along the Canadian Pacific Railroad’s mainline tracks between West Layton Avenue (Milepost 0079.71) and West Holt Avenue/South 6^th Street (Milepost 0081.36). 

b.  The area along the Canadian Pacific Railroad’s mainline track within approximately one-quarter mile of the North Plankinton Avenue crossing (between Milepost 85.18 and Milepost 85.68), with the exception of the area along the Canadian Pacific Railroad moveable swing bridge (B-316 ½) over the Menomonee River, and the area along the Amtrak station.

Part 3.  This ordinance takes effect September 1, 2011.
