Analysis

This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Pubic Works to install fiber and provide network connectivity at the expense of, and for the use and benefit of, Marquette University. This will provide Marquette University enhanced connectivity to 1832 West Kilbourn Avenue, commonly referred to as Norris Park, the leased facility of the City of Milwaukee.

Body

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee owns certain real estate and improvements located at 1832 West Kilbourn Avenue, commonly referred to as Norris Park; and

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee has authorized the lease of these facilities to Marquette University by Common Council Resolution File Number 091168, adopted on January 10, 2010; and

Whereas, Marquette University has plans to improve Norris Park to create playfields that will support recreational and intramural sports activities organized and managed by Marquette University; and

Whereas, Marquette University’s plans for Norris Park include grading and landscaping, storm water management improvements, establishment of natural grass turf throughout the site, and installation of field lighting, fencing and security equipment; and

Whereas, Marquette University’s plans for the property are consistent with the Near West Side Comprehensive Plan which calls for rehabilitation of the Norris Park property into an appealing, multi-purpose green space which will improve the quality of life in the surrounding neighborhood; and

Whereas, Marquette University has requested a connection between the Field House located at 1832 West Kilbourn Avenue and its Cudahy Hall; and

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee owns dark fiber and can provide network services in routes that would be beneficial to the extension and enhancement of Marquette University to further its mission; and

Whereas, It would be in the best interests of the City of Milwaukee to facilitate connectivity within the City for Marquette University; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Commissioner of Public Works is authorized and directed to install dark fiber and to provide network connectivity, at no cost to the City of Milwaukee, in certain routes where capacity is available at the expense of, and for the use and benefit of, Marquette University.   Requestor
