Body
Whereas. Section 118.40(2r), Wis. Stats., authorizes the Milwaukee Common Council to operate charter schools within its corporate limits, provided the schools meet certain criteria; and
Whereas, Pursuant to this authority, the City enacted ch. 330 of the Code of Ordinances to regulate the granting, denial, governance and revocation of school charters; and
Whereas, On July 27, 2010, the Common Council approved File Number 100283, a motion authorizing the Garden Homes Montessori School to operate a Milwaukee Common Council charter school; and
Whereas, The Charter School Review Committee requested that Garden Homes Montessori School provide its FY2010 GAAP and FY2010 FIR audits, and both audits expressed doubt as to whether Garden Homes Montessori School could continue as a going concern; and
Whereas, The Charter School Review met on November 18, 2010 to take up these concerns about Garden Homes Montessori School and unanimously approved a motion to recommend that the Common Council rescind the offer to enter into a charter contract with Garden Homes Montessori School; now, therefore; now, therefore
It is moved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that Common Council File Number 100283, a motion authorizing the Garden Homes Montessori School to operate a Milwaukee Common Council charter school, is rescinded.
