Analysis
This resolution supports the vision of the Milwaukee River Greenway Master Plan: A Vision for Recreation and Restoration. The plan is a guide for resource protection and restoration and recreation development for a seven-mile section along the Milwaukee River.
Body
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee ("City") has placed a great emphasis on the full utilization and appreciation of the Milwaukee River; and

Whereas, On May 30, 2007, the Common Council adopted File Number 070127, an Interim Study (IS) Overlay Zone and File Number 070124, a study plan for the upper reaches of the Milwaukee River; and

Whereas, On September 1, 2009, the Common Council adopted File Number 071407, the Northeast Side Area Comprehensive Plan identifying the Milwaukee River district as a catalytic project and recommending protection and preservation of habitat within the Primary Environmental Corridor (“PEC”) along the Milwaukee River; and

Whereas, On May 25, 2010, the Common Council adopted File Number 081568, the Milwaukee River Site Plan Review Overlay Zone and File Number 081569, design standards that balance the protection of the PEC and promote high-quality, sustainable building development along the upper reaches of the Milwaukee River; and

Whereas, The Milwaukee River Greenway is a seven-mile section of the Milwaukee River within the City of Milwaukee, City of Glendale and the Village of Shorewood providing a natural resource and recreational opportunities within the urban environment; and,

Whereas, Milwaukee participated in Milwaukee River Master Plan Team meetings which developed the Milwaukee River Greenway Master Plan: A Vision for Recreation and Restoration issued in June 2010, attached as Exhibit 1; and,
