Title

Resolution authorizing the placement of a memorial stone honoring Willie C. “Will” Perkins, Jr., in the City-owned parcel bounded by W. Capitol Drive, N. 20th Street and W. Atkinson Avenue.

Analysis

This resolution authorizes the Northwest Side Community Development Corporation to place a memorial stone honoring Willie C. “Will” Perkins, Jr., in the City-owned parcel bounded by W. Capitol Drive, N. 20th Street and W. Atkinson Avenue, with the exact location to be determined by the Commissioner of Public Works.  It further accepts the memorial stone as a gift to the City.

Body

Whereas, Willie C. “Will” Perkins, Jr., was raised in Milwaukee, attended Rufus King High School and worked in -- and later operated -- his family’s business, Mr. Perkins Family Restaurant, a Milwaukee institution located in the Atkinson-Capitol-Teutonia commercial district; and

 

Whereas, Willie C. “Will” Perkins, Jr., who passed from this life on January 4, 2010, was a kind, loving and hard-working family man and business owner who was well-respected in the community; and

 

Whereas, The Northwest Side Community Development Corporation has donated a memorial stone - currently located at Mr. Perkins Family Restaurant -- honoring Willie C. “Will” Perkins, Jr.; and

 

Whereas, The City-owned triangle of land bounded by W. Capitol Drive, N. 20th Street and W. Atkinson Avenue is an appropriate permanent location for this memorial stone in that it is located in the same neighborhood that Willie C. “Will” Perkins, Jr., served for many years and will be highly-visible to the public, providing a regular reminder of the contributions and accomplishments of this outstanding citizen; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Northwest Side Community Development Corporation is authorized to place, at no cost to the City, the Willie C. “Will” Perkins, Jr., memorial stone in the City-owned parcel bounded by W. Capitol Drive, N. 20th Street and W. Atkinson Avenue; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the Commissioner of City Development, in consultation with the Commissioner of Public Works, shall determine the most suitable location for placement of the memorial stone within this parcel; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That, upon completion of installation, the City of Milwaukee accepts the donation of this memorial stone as a gift to the City.
