Minutes note: Mr. Steve Mahan present at the table. Mr. Mahan would like to Hold this item until Dept. can identify other sources of funding to be used for this purpose. Present at the table Inspector Hagen with the Power Point presentation explaining disbursement and usage of these funds. Ald. Dudzik present a the table. Stated the he is in favor of the resolution as long as the funds are used city wide. In Support of the resolution: Block Captain of the Capital Heights Block Club, Teresa Broil. Alex Runner, from Ald. Hines' office Ald. Hines stated these efforts will only expand the Milwaukee Police Department efforts, already currently in effect.

Title

Analysis
This resolution provides that 2010 Community Development Block Grant contingent funds be appropriated to the Milwaukee Police Department in the amount of $110,000 and to the Department of Public Works in the amount of $90,000 to supplement abandoned and foreclosed properties stabilization efforts.
Body
Whereas, A major objective of Community Development Block Grant funding is Neighborhood Improvement Project programming; and

Whereas, Quality of life issues which have an adverse impact upon neighborhoods will be aggressively enforced; and

Whereas, Abandoned and foreclosed properties become havens for vandalism, arson and drug crimes; and

Whereas, The Common Council has developed a committee to manage the problem of abandoned and foreclosed properties; and

Whereas, Milwaukee Police Department officers investigating abandoned and foreclosed properties have the power to fully secure properties eliminating much of the criminal activity occurring within them; and

Whereas, The Department of Public Works plays a vital role in sustaining neighborhoods through collection of nuisance garbage and vacant lot maintenance; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that 2010 Community Development Block Grant contingent funds shall be appropriated to the Milwaukee Police Department in the amount of $110,000 and to the Department of Public Works in the amount of $90,000, for a total appropriation of $200,000, for abandoned and foreclosed properties stabilization efforts; and, be it
