Title
An ordinance relating to design standards for transmission towers.
Sections
295-413-1-j am
Analysis
For all zoning districts, the zoning code classifies a transmission tower as a limited use, i.e., a use that is permitted without board of zoning appeals review and approval provided all of the “limited use standards” for that use are met. One of the limited use standards for a transmission tower is that the tower be designed to support a certain number of reception/transmission systems. The total number of reception/transmission systems that a tower is required to be able to support increases with tower height.
This ordinance clarifies that the total number of reception/transmission systems that a transmission tower in a specified height range is required to be able to support is a minimum number.
Body
The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:
Part 1. Section 295-413-1-j of the code is amended to read:
295-413. Transmission Towers.

A tower for television or radio facilities shall be designed to support at least 3 additional reception/transmission systems having power equal to or greater than that of the reception/transmission system which the tower is initially built to support. For any transmission tower other than a tower for television or radio facilities, the >>minimum<< total number of reception/transmission systems the tower shall be designed to accommodate shall be as follows:
Tower Height Number of Reception/Transmission Systems
0-50 feet |910|51-150 feet |910|151-250 feet |910|251-350 feet |910|over 350 feet 6 plus 2 for each 100 feet or fraction
