Resolution relative to application, acceptance and funding of an Urban Development Economic Development Initiative-Special Projects Grant.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the City of Milwaukee, Department of City Development, to apply for, accept and fund an Urban Development Economic Development Initiative-Special Projects Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in the amount of $332,500, with a City Share of $0 and a Grantor Share of $332,500. The purpose of this grant project is to conduct blight elimination and site preparation in the 30th Street Industrial Corridor.
Body
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee (“City”) appears to be eligible for grant funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (“HUD”), Urban Development Economic Development Initiative-Special Projects Grant (“EDI-SP”), for blight elimination and site preparation for the reuse of land and buildings in the 30th Street Industrial Corridor, including the 1st, 4th, 7th and 15th Aldermanic Districts; and

Whereas, Through this grant program, HUD funds activities such as property acquisition and rehabilitation of publicly owned property; housing rehabilitation; economic development activities; acquisition, construction, reconstruction or installation of public facilities; and public works and other site improvements; and

Whereas, Properties in the 30th Street Industrial Corridor require significant site preparation, including demolition, environmental investigation and clean-up to attract new public and private development; and

Whereas, Operation of this grant project from May 25, 2009 to May 24, 2012 will cost $332,500 of which, $0 (0%) will be provided by the City and $332,500 (100%) will be provided by the Grantor; now, therefore, be it
