This resolution designates the Silver City International Festival as an official City event and authorizes the acceptance and expenditure of donations to fund the event.
Body
Whereas, Silver City International Festival is a free event that brings residents together to celebrate the cultural diversity of the Silver City neighborhood through food, arts, and music with vendors, activities, and live performances; and
Whereas, The festival takes place on West National Avenue between 33rd and 35th Streets; and
Whereas, Throughout the day, entertainment is provided, including Mexican hip-hop, cumbia footwork, and traditional dances from a variety of performers and musical groups across two stages; and
Whereas, More than a dozen local vendors are present, selling tea, candy, handmade jewelry, art, apparel, and other gifts; and
Whereas, Other events include interactive experiences with piñata-making workshops, caricature illustrations, custom poetry, and more; and
Whereas, A wide array of foods are offered, including walking tacos, barbecue, ice cream, and coffee; and
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee may receive contributions from community residents and businesses to provide for the expenses of the Silver City International Festival; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Common Council designates the Silver City International Festival as an official City event; and, be it
Further Resolved, That all City departments are directed to assist as necessary to make the Silver City International Festival successful; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Office of the Common Council - City Clerk is authorized to accept up to $10,000 of contributions for the Silver City International Festival and to expend such funds for this purpose or for any purpose specified by the contribution in accordance with established City policies and procedures; and, be it
Further Resolved, That upon receipt and deposit of these funds, the City Comptroller is authorized and directed to establish a special account within the Common Council - City Clerk’s budget for the expenditure of the contributions; and be it
Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized and directed to transfer appropriations and estimated revenue from the Special Purpose Account for Contributions, 0001-2110-0001-006300-D001, and the Estimated Revenue Account for Contributions, 0001-2110-0001-009850, to the Common Council - City Clerk’s Special Account, 0001-1310-DXXX-006300 or -006000 as directed by the City Clerk, and the Common Council - City Clerk’s Estimated Revenue Account, 0001-1310-0001-009850, up to the amount of $10,000.
