Title

Resolution relating to Common Council support of Milwaukee’s application for a Google fiber optic network project.

Analysis

Through this resolution, the City of Milwaukee Common Council supports efforts to bring Google Fiber to Milwaukee as a trial location for a Google fiber optic network project.

Body

Whereas, Google, an information-technology company based in Mountain View, CA.,  issued a request for information on February 10, 2010, to build a fiber-optic network to offer high-speed Internet service: and

 

Whereas, Google is accepting applications from communities nationwide until March 26, 2010, relating to this fiber network that could deliver a fiber-to-home connection of Internet speeds of over 1 gigabit per second; and

 

Whereas, A fiber-optic network offering a high speed Internet connection would provide an infrastructure investment, create jobs and offer an economic edge in attracting businesses to the City; and   

 

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee responded to this request submitting the City’s application to be selected as a Google Fiber test location; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Common Council supports efforts to bring Google Fiber to Milwaukee, as a trial location for a Google super-fast fiber optic network test project.
