Title

Resolution relating to the City of Milwaukee Information Security Plan.

Analysis

This resolution revises the City’s Information Security Plan to reflect changes in the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) information security standards and guidelines relating to Security and Privacy Controls for Information Systems and Organizations.

Body

 

Whereas, Common Council File Number 201311, adopted on February 2, 2021, established a City of Milwaukee Information Security Plan for City employees and departments; and

 

Whereas, the adopted City of Milwaukee Information Security Plan is based on Revision 4 of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publication 800-53; and

 

Whereas, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has since published Revision 5 of Special Publication 800-53, revising the 18 separate individual areas of the current Information Security Plan; and

 

Whereas, The City Information Management Committee is responsible for policy and management of the City’s information resources; and

 

Whereas, On December 7, 2023, the City Information Management Committee approved revisions to the City’s Information Security Plan to implement the updated NIST standards and guidelines; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that a revised Information Security Plan, a copy of which is attached to this file, is adopted as City policy.
