Title:

Substitute resolution directing the Department of City Development to promote Homes MKE properties on the Department’s website.
Analysis

This resolution directs the Department of City Development to promote Homes MKE properties on the Department’s website.  The resolution implements a footnote in the 2024 Adopted Budget.

Body

Whereas, The Department of City Development (DCD) launched the Homes MKE initiative in the spring of 2023 with the goal of renovating up to 150 vacant, City-owned tax foreclosure properties; and

Whereas, There are currently at least 37 properties in the process of being fully rehabilitated, with at least 16 already at some stage of construction, which may include all-new plumbing, heating or electrical service; and

Whereas, DCD has indicated that many of the Homes MKE properties will soon be available for sale or as lease-to-own properties; and

Whereas, If successful, Homes MKE will provide dozens of Milwaukee households with safe, affordable housing and return once-blighted properties to the tax roll; and

Whereas, Marketing the availability of completed Homes MKE properties as for sale or lease-to-own on the City/DCD website will expedite the disposition of these properties and improve the likelihood of success of the initiative; and

Whereas, The 2024 Budget was adopted by Common Council File Number 230001 on November 3, 2023; and

Whereas, Amendment 12 placed a footnote in the Budget stating, “The Department of City Development shall promote HomesMKE properties on their website”; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of City Development is directed to promote Homes MKE properties on its website.
