Analysis
This ordinance provides that:

1. For budgetary and administrative purposes, the board of zoning appeals shall be part of the department of administration.

1. The department of administration shall provide staff support for the board.

2. The board of zoning appeals administrative manager in the department of administration shall be the secretary of the board.

3. The board chair shall direct the work of the administrative manager except for office staff payroll and personnel matters, board purchasing, and other administrative support functions, which shall be performed under the supervision of the director of administration.

Body

The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Part 1. Section 295-311-1-c of the code is repealed and recreated to read:

295-311. Appeals.

1. BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS.

c. Board Budget and Staff. For budgetary and administrative purposes, the board shall be part of the department of administration. The department of administration shall provide staff support for the board, which support shall not infringe on the independence and statutory authority of the board. The board of zoning appeals administrative manager in the department of administration shall be the secretary of the board. The board chair shall direct the work of the administrative manager except for office staff payroll and personnel matters, board purchasing, and other administrative support functions, which shall be performed under the supervision of the director of administration. Notwithstanding any provision of this paragraph, an order of the board chair relating to the operations of the board shall supersede any conflicting order of the director of administration.
