Analysis

This resolution directs the Department of Administration and the Office of Violence Prevention to work with the Mayor's Office to expand the Alert Neighbor Program.

Body

Whereas, The Alert Neighborhood program is a partnership between neighborhood block clubs, the Milwaukee Police Department, the City, and local non-profits to evaluate persisting neighborhood issues, such as crime, and develop strategies to reduce these problems; and

 

Whereas, The program assists neighborhood block clubs to identify and implement strategies by reporting criminal activity, holding regular neighborhood meetings, and planning neighborhood improvement projects, to reduce safety concerns; and

 

Whereas, The program was created in 2021 to provide funding for tools such as cameras, lighting, and signage, and expansion of the program could help increase resident safety throughout the city; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the City of Milwaukee Common Council, that the Department of Administration and the Office of Violence Prevention are directed to work with the Mayor's Office to expand the Alert Neighbor Program.
