Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of Public Works, Infrastructure Services Division, to accept a Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District Green Solutions grant for the construction of a green alley in the City of Milwaukee in the amount of $130,000 to install one green alley that will be constructed as part of the City’s 2023 alley reconstruction program. The resolution also authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to execute a post installation Maintenance Covenant with the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District.

Body
Whereas, The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) is responsible for collecting and treating wastewater from local sewerage systems; and

Whereas, Green infrastructure, such as green alleys, reduces the volume of stormwater in the sewer system and the amount of pollutants discharged to surface waters; and

Whereas, The Green alleys consist of permeable pavers constructed in the center 4-feet of newly reconstructed alleys; and

Whereas, The construction of the alley was approved on Common Council File Number 221597; and
Whereas, MMSD promotes the construction of Best Management Practices such as green alleys and provides the City funding as part of its Green Solutions Program; and

Whereas, MMSD is willing to reimburse the City up to $130,000 towards the cost of the construction of the permeable pavers and related items in said alley; and
