Minutes note: Jerell Kruschke, Mike Amsden and Kate Riordan - DPW Ms. Riordan made a presentation that it has been added to the file. Ms. Riordan said that the revenue is used to pay for staff (administration) and for infrastructure investment (like parking corrals). Mr. Amsdem asked the members to provide/send all the feedback/complaints for statistics. He also said that 9 crashes involving dockless scooters have been reported to MPD since last September. Ald. Brostoff said that the rides numbers are a reminder that we need to move towards other multi-modal transportations in the city. He also said that if the program is going to move forward, the speed limits on certain areas and hours should be revised. Mr. Amsden said that they want to record the entire season before moving forward with the one on one meetings with the alderpersons.

4/26/20230 PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE HELD TO CALL OF THE CHAIR

Minutes note: Ald. Bauman said that we had a little burst of warm weather and the use of scooters raised up. He added that sidewalk GEO catching is not working and that it was supposed to be part of the deal when selecting the operators. Kate Rirodan - DPW - said that GEO catching for sidewalks was required and that some scooters have a voice commands to be used as reminder (do not ride on sidewalks) and when the scooters are used on sidewalks. She added that they had demonstrations of the technology and that there are some patches where the data is not available but that she has received a lot of complaints as well. Ald. Brostoff that he has received lots of complaints from Brady St and that he wants to fine violators. Mr. Kruschke said that reckless driving on scooters is being part of the conversations with MPD. Ald. Bauman said that we should not been using MPD scarce resources to go after scooter users. Ald. Brostoff said that there is no proper mechanism in place and, that we must engage in working on one because the reckless driving on sidewalk is happening. He also mentioned that there are users that are dumping scooters on ramps (blocking the access to handicap people) and everywhere else and, that they also should be fined. Ald. Westmoreland said that operators have the user's credit card information and that the contract must say that fines are going to be charged to the same credit card for example. Mr. Kruschke said that the operators can ban users that use the scooters on sidewalks and that this is an on going conversation and, that they will address all the suggestions to build up the pilot program. Ald. Chambers said that he is an avid user of scooters and that he understands the issues but that we should not base our decisions on the bad apples and, that he hopes that the scooter program continues. Ald. Spiker said that this a conversation worth to have it off-line.
