Title

Resolution confirming the City Engineer is authorized to apply for Federal Transportation Alternatives Program grants for the 2023-2026 application cycle, with an 80 percent grantor share and a 20 percent local share.

Analysis

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is soliciting applications to utilize funding under the Federal Transportation Alternatives Program.  The Department of Public Works is applying for funding for four projects. Successful grant applications will be funded with an 80 percent grantor share and a 20 percent local share.

Body

Whereas, The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is soliciting project applications for funding in fiscal years 2023-2026 under the Federal Transportation Alternatives Program; and

 

Whereas, Projects approved for the Federal Transportation Alternatives Program will be funded with an 80 percent grantor share and 20 percent local share; and

 

Whereas, The Department of Public Works has identified three projects for infrastructure related improvements and one project for a planning and feasibility study; and

 

Whereas, The Department of Public Works has submitted applications for the following projects:

 

1.                     West Hopkins Street Protected Bike Lanes

2.                     West Oklahoma Avenue Protected Bike Lanes

3.                     West Walnut Street-West Lisbon Avenue Protected Bike Lanes

4.                     South Powerline Trail Planning Study

; and

 

Whereas, The total estimated cost of this project is $4,859,663 with a grantor share of $3,887,730 and a local share of $971,933;

 

Whereas, A local resolution of support for the proposed projects must be executed and submitted to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation prior to June 1, 2023; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the City Engineer is authorized to submit applications to the Federal Transportation Alternatives Program for the following projects:

 

1.                     West Hopkins Street Protected Bike Lanes

2.                     West Oklahoma Avenue Protected Bike Lanes

3.                     West Walnut Street-West Lisbon Avenue Protected Bike Lanes

4.                     South Powerline Trail Planning Study

 

; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That any successful grant projects will be brought to the Common Council for approval to enter into Project Agreements for funding planning, design, and construction.
