Resolution relating to acceptance and funding of the 2023 Wisconsin Department of Transportation Bureau of Transportation Safety Seat Belt Enforcement grant.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to accept and fund a 2023 Seat Belt Enforcement grant from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Bureau of Transportation Safety in the amount of $124,600 with a city in-kind share of $25,000 and a grantor share of $99,600. The purpose of the grant is to reduce the number of motorists operating without wearing safety belts and to encourage seat belt enforcement in areas with low seat belt usage. The grant funds a multi-jurisdictional traffic safety task force focused on decreasing traffic crashes and obtaining voluntary compliance with traffic regulations to decrease fatalities and serious injury collisions.

Whereas, Under the terms of CFDA #20.616, the City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Bureau of Transportation Safety to reduce the number of motorists operating without wearing safety belts and to encourage seat belt enforcement in areas with low seat belt usage; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant from 10/1/2022 to 9/30/2023 would cost $124,600 of which, $25,000 (~25%) would be provided by the city and $99,600 (~75%) would be provided by the grantor; now therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Section 304-81, of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:

1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2023 Special Revenue - Grant and Aid Projects the following amounts for the program/project titled 2023 Seat Belt Enforcement Grant:
