Whereas, The Adopted 2023 City Budget included Amendment 21, a footnote directing the Office of Violence Prevention to develop a community-wide program to train residents in de-escalation techniques and conflict resolution skills; and
Whereas, The Office of Violence Prevention funds various programs to train residents in de-escalation and conflict resolution skills; and
Whereas, It is expected a community-wide program to train residents in de-escalation techniques and conflict resolution skills will address violent behavior more comprehensively than piecemeal programs targeted at various segments of the community; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Office of Violence Prevention is directed to develop a community-wide program to train residents in de-escalation techniques and conflict resolution skills; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Office of Violence Prevention shall report to the Common Council on a community-wide program to train residents in de-escalation techniques and conflict resolution skills by May 31, 2023.
