Resolution relative to acceptance and funding of a 2023 Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Urban Forestry grant - Milwaukee Urban Forestry Workforce Development and Training.

Analysis

This resolution authorizes the Department of Public Works - Operations Division (Forestry Section) to accept and fund a 2023 Urban Forestry grant from Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) in the amount of up to $22,000 with a city share of $11,000 and a grantor share of $11,000.  The purpose of the grant is to develop and conduct an Electrical Hazard Awareness Training Program for all City of Milwaukee Forestry employees which may include First Aid/CPR and Aerial Rescue Training.  This grant will also provide Teaching Methods and Technology - Apprentice training/certification for a limited amount of staff in order to expand the Forestry Sections ability to provide qualified instructors for the Urban Forestry Arborist Apprenticeship Program.

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from WDNR to develop and conduct an Electrical Hazard Awareness Training Program for all City of Milwaukee Forestry employees which may include First Aid/CPR and Aerial Rescue Training.  This grant will also provide Teaching Methods and Technology - Apprentice training/certification for a limited amount of staff in order to expand the Forestry Sections ability to provide qualified instructors for the Urban Forestry Arborist Apprenticeship Program; and

 

Whereas, The operation of this grant from 1/1/2023 to 12/31/2023 would cost $22,000 of which, $11,000 (50%) would be provided by the city and $11,000 (50%) would be provided by the grantor; now therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the Department of Public Works shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Section 304-81, of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:

 

1.  Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2023 Special Revenue - Grant and Aid Projects the following amounts for the program/project titled 2023 Urban Forestry:

Further Resolved, That these funds are budgeted for the Department of Public Works-Operations Division, which is authorized to:

 

1.  Expend from the amount budgeted for specified purposes as indicated in the grant budget and incur costs consistent with the award date;

 

2.  Enter into subcontracts as detailed in the grant budget.
