Substitute resolution approving an amendment to the Emergency Medical Services intergovernmental agreement between the City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County for 2021-25.

Analysis

This resolution authorizes Amendment #3 to the current paramedic services agreement between the Milwaukee Fire Department and the County of Milwaukee for the 5-year period from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2025, to provide paramedic services. The agreement allows the Fire Department to provide paramedic emergency medical services and assure a uniform delivery system is in place between the City and the County.  The department has been providing these services since August 25, 1977. Under the terms of the service agreement, the City expected to generate $3,539,842.59 in aggregate from 2021-2025. With Amendment #3 the Milwaukee Fire Department  will receive an additional $568,686 for 2022 due to an increase in the funds available to the Milwaukee County EMS System for 2022.

Body

Whereas, Section 304-24 of the Code of Ordinances regulates the receipt, appropriation and expenditure of contributions received by the City; and

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee and County of Milwaukee entered into a contract for paramedic services on August 25, 1977; and

Whereas, The parties previously entered into an agreement for a term of 60 months, from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2025; and

Whereas, The current contract between the City of Milwaukee and County of Milwaukee will be amended to reflect the 2022 payment for paramedic service as $1,260,291, which is an increase of $568,686; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the paramedic contract between the City of Milwaukee and County of Milwaukee, a copy of which is attached to this file, is approved and the proper City officers are authorized and directed to execute the agreement on behalf of the City.
