Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to apply for a 2010-2011 Wisconsin Coastal Management Program (WCMP) grant from the Wisconsin Department of Administration (DOA) in the amount of $275,000 with a City share of $233,750 and a grantor share of $41,250. The purpose of this grant is to aid funding for the replacement of forty (40) storm water inlets and catch basins with water quality catch basins. The inlets and catch basins are located in the area bounded by West Hope Avenue, West Congress Street, North 30th Street, and North 27th Street, which is part of the 30th Street Corridor.
Body
Whereas, Stormwater pollution control is an important component of the City of Milwaukee’s (City) storm water management regulation and the City’s permit with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR); and

Whereas, The Commissioner of Public Works intends to apply for a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Administration (DOA) to help construct practices that promote stormwater pollution abatement; and

Whereas, Water quality catch basins with large sump areas, along with routine cleaning, have been proven as a practice well suited for the removal of sediments from urban stormwater runoff; and

Whereas, To assist in funding for the replacement of the forty (40) inlets and catch basins as part of said inlet and catch basin replacement project, the City wishes to apply for grant funds from the DOA under the 2010-2011 Wisconsin Coastal Management Program; and
