Resolution authorizing the Commissioner of Public Works to apply for a Wisconsin Coastal Management Program grant from the Wisconsin Department of Administration for the repair and rehabilitation of fourteen storm sewer outfalls located at various areas in the City of Milwaukee.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to apply for a 2010-2011 Wisconsin Coastal Management Program (WCMP) grant from the Wisconsin Department of Administration (DOA) in the amount of $200,000 with a City of Milwaukee (City) share of $140,000 and a grantor share of $60,000. The purpose of this grant is to aid in funding for repairing and rehabilitation of fourteen (14) damaged storm sewer outfalls at various areas throughtout the City by restoring the eroded areas, applying erosion control measures at these outfalls and by replacing those that are severely damaged.
Body
Whereas, There are 757 outfalls within the City of Milwaukee limits which convey the storm sewer flow from the sewers throughout the City to the State’s waterways; and

Whereas, The City’s regular outfall inspection has identified fourteen (14) outfalls that are damaged or severely eroded; and

Whereas, The soil erosion at the storm sewer outfalls is considered to be contributor to pollution of the state water ways; and

Whereas, Stormwater pollution control is an important component of the City of Milwaukee’s (City) storm water management regulation and the City’s permit with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR); and

Whereas, To assist in funding for the repair of fourteen (14) storm sewer outfalls as part of said storm sewer outfall rehabilitation and erosion control project, the City wishes to apply for grant funds from the Wisconsin Department of Administration (DOA) under the 2010-2011 Wisconsin Coastal Management Program; and
