Substitute resolution amending the election ward lines in the City of Milwaukee.
Analysis
This resolution amends the election ward lines in the City of Milwaukee based on the recent approval of district boundaries for the Wisconsin State Legislature.
Body
Whereas, On November 17, 2021, the Common Council adopted File Number 211118, a resolution establishing new election ward lines for the City of Milwaukee based on the 2020 Census; and

Whereas, On April 15, 2022, the Wisconsin Supreme Court, in Johnson v. Wisconsin Elections Commission, adopted State legislative district maps drawn by the Wisconsin Legislature; and

Whereas, The adopted State legislative district maps split a number of election wards in the City of Milwaukee, necessitating creation of several new wards and the adoption of a new City election ward map; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that a revised City of Milwaukee election ward plan is approved, pursuant to s. 5.15, Wis. Stats., and that in compliance with s.5.15, Wis. Stats., the following are attached to and incorporated as part of this file:

1. All wards numbered in whole numbers in consecutive order beginning with the number one;

2. Designation of polling places for the wards;

3. The boundaries for each ward specified pursuant to the conventions of s. 4.003, Wis. Stats., which are incorporated into;

4. A map of the City of Milwaukee which illustrates the ward boundaries; and

5. A list of the block numbers used by the U.S. Bureau of the Census that are wholly or partly contained in each ward.; and, be it

Further Resolved, That as required by s. 5.15, Wis. Stats., the City Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to the county clerks of Milwaukee, Washington and Waukesha counties, and to the State Legislative Reference Bureau, together with items specified #4 and #5 in the "Resolved" cl...
