Analysis
This resolution establishes a City Data Governance Plan. Through this plan, the City will define the overall management of the confidentiality, availability, and integrity of City data, including a defined set of procedures and a plan to execute those procedures.
Body
Whereas, The City Information Management Committee is responsible for policy and management of the City’s information resources and has recommended approval of this City Data Governance Plan; and
Whereas, The City is committed to complying with applicable federal and state laws, and other rules and regulations regarding the management of City data; and
Whereas, Data is a key asset in meeting the demands of local government and proper data management can add value to the work of the City; and
Whereas, To deliver better outcomes, data must be proactively managed and maintained much like our capital and financial assets; and
Whereas, The City is committed to sharing data in a structured format to improve access to information and enhance coordination and efficiency among departments partner organizations and citizens; and
Whereas, This plan establishes a framework for the management of data and applies to all information resources created and owned by the City and its departments; and
Whereas, Through this policy, the City will define the overall management of the confidentiality, availability, and integrity of City data, including a defined set of procedures and a plan to execute those procedures; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that a City Data Governance Plan, a copy of which is attached to this file, is adopted as City policy.
