Resolution relating to acceptance and funding of a Green Solutions grant from the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District for the installation of stormwater trees in the median areas of North 60th Street and on West Burleigh Street, in the 10th Aldermanic District and partially in the 2nd and 7th Aldermanic Districts.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of Public Works, Infrastructure Services Division, to accept a Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District Green Solutions grant funding for the construction of stormwater trees with a maximum reimbursement amount of $896,509. The stormwater trees will be constructed on North 60th Street between West Capitol Drive and West Burleigh Street and on West Burleigh Street between North 60th Street and West Appleton Avenue. The resolution also authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to execute a Green Solutions Funding Agreement with the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District to install said stormwater trees.

Whereas, The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) is responsible for collecting and treating wastewater from local sewerage systems; and

Whereas, Green infrastructure reduces the volume of stormwater in the sewer system and the amount of pollutants discharged to surface waters; and

Whereas, The City proposes a new kind of green infrastructure commonly known as stormwater trees in the medians of North 60th Street between West Capitol Drive and West Burleigh Street and in the medians of West Burleigh Street between North 60th Street and West Appleton Ave; and

Whereas, The stormwater trees project provides water quality benefit in compliance with the City’s stormwater discharge permit with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR);
