Title

Substitute ordinance creating the Bronzeville Cultural and Entertainment District Interim Study Overlay Zone, for properties located along West North Avenue between North Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and Interstate 43, in the 6th Aldermanic District.

Analysis

This substitute ordinance establishes an overlay zone that allows for discretionary review of new uses in the Bronzeville Cultural and Entertainment District while additional changes in zoning provisions are contemplated.  The overlay zone will serve to advance the goals established for the development of the Bronzeville Cultural and Entertainment District.

Body

Resolved, That the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, do ordain as follows:

 

Part 1. There is added to the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances (“MCO”) a new section to read as follows:

 

In accordance with the provisions of Section 295-1005 of the MCO related to the creation of Interim Study Overlay Zones, the zoning map is amended to create an Interim Study Overlay Zone (IS) for the area bounded and described as follows:

 

The Bronzeville Cultural and Entertainment District Interim Study Overlay Zone includes those properties located along West North Avenue between North Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and Interstate 43, including properties on both the east and west sides of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive,

Pursuant to Section 295-1005(2)(e) of the MCO, this Interim Study Overlay Zone shall be terminated two years from the date of adoption if it has not already been superseded by a zoning map approved by the Common Council.
