Title

Substitute resolution approving contract for legal services between the City of Milwaukee, Grzeca Law Group, S.C., and Arunachalam Ramaiah, Ph.D., relating to an employment-based nonimmigrant visa to work in the Health Department.

Analysis

This resolution approves and authorizes the City to enter into a contract for legal services with the law firm of Grzeca Law Group, S.C., to advise and provide counsel to the City in relation to securing an employment-based nonimmigrant visa for Arunachalam Ramaiah, Ph.D., to work in the Health Department.

Body

Whereas, Section 304-23 of the Code of Ordinances allows the Common Council to authorize retention of a law firm outside of the City Attorney’s permanent staff, pursuant to a written agreement; and

 

Whereas, The Health Department seeks to hire Arunachalam Ramaiah, Ph.D., for the position of Bioinformatician; and

 

Whereas, Arunachalam Ramaiaha, Ph.D., requires an employment-based nonimmigrant visa prior to being able to work for the City; and

 

Whereas, The Health Department intends to fund the legal services of Grzeca Law Group, S.C., and all associated visa fees with grant money from Special Purpose Account Number 634005; and

 

Whereas, The City desires to retain Grzeca Law Group, S.C. to secure an employment-based nonimmigrant visa for Arunachalam Ramaiaha, Ph.D.; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City Attorney and appropriate City officers are authorized to execute the Contract for Legal Services between the City, Grzeca Law Group, S.C., and Arunachalam Ramaiah, Ph.D., which is attached to this file, or one in substantial conformity therewith and approved by the City Attorney, and to take the steps necessary and required by the Contract for Legal Services.
