Title

Resolution to authorize the naming of South General Mitchell Boulevard and South Gold Star Drive as private roads, located in the 10^th Aldermanic District.

Analysis

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) along with the Alexander Company and the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee are restoring and rehabilitating six buildings in the Milwaukee VA Soldiers Home Historic District.  The buildings will include housing units for veterans and their families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.  The VA and Alexander Company have requested addresses be assigned to these buildings.  In order to assign addresses South General Mitchell Boulevard and South Gold Star Drive need to be designated as private roads.  The designation of these private roads will allow address assignments, help optimize operations and serve the needs of the owner, tenants and emergency service providers.

Body

Whereas, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has renovated six buildings in the Milwaukee VA Soldiers Home Historic District and desires private roads be designated: and

Whereas, By the City formally designating South General Mitchell Boulevard and South Gold Star Drive as private roads addresses can be assigned to optimize building operations and support emergency service responses; and

Whereas, Chapter 113-1 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances provides for naming private roads and the owner has provided a map, labeled Exhibit A, which shall serve as the description of the limits of the private roads; and

Whereas, as a condition of adopting this resolution, the owner is responsible for placing street name signs in accord with Chapter 113-1 at their cost. As well as placing and maintaining traffic control devices as necessary to control vehicular traffic leaving the site; now therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the private streets shall be described as shown on the map labeled Exhibit A.

Further Resolved, That City departments are authorized to enter South General Mitchell Boulevard and South Gold Star Way in their databases and on city maps as a private roads.
