Minutes note: Appearance: Ms. Chia Hayes Tyrone St Junior Nick DeSiato - Chief MPD Sgt. Erin Mejias - MPD Mr. St Junior explained that this item comes as a result of a warrant in a joint effort from the Milwaukee Police Department to assist the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The department did not act negligently in executing the warrant. House was in state of disrepair. Based on the explanation and testimony of the assistant city attorney, Ald. Dodd ask for this item to be held, to further investigate this claim; to review payments made, citations issues to Ms. Hayes; Ald. Dodd rescinded the motion to hold. Ald. Dodd moved to settle this claim in the amount of $5,000.00. Ald. Bauman moved to amend motion to adjust the amount and moved to settle the claim in the amount of $7,500.00. This resolution authorizes the payment of the claim of Chiab Hayes.  for property damage in the amount of $7,500.00.

Body

Whereas, The claimant, Chiab Hayes.  (C.I. File No. 1032-2020-682), filed a claim for damages to her home on March 3rd or March 4th, 2020 against the City of Milwaukee ; and

 

Whereas, The Judiciary and Legislation Committee on April 26, 2021 heard from the claimant and the department and voted by three (3) ayes and two (2) noes, to pay $7,500.00 toward Ms. Hayes' claim; now, therefore be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the proper city officials be and hereby are authorized to issue a check in the amount of $7,500.00, payable to Chiab Hayes, 2536 N 53rd Street, Milwaukee WI  53210 in full and final settlement of said claim, said amount to be charged to the Damages and Claims Fund, Account No. 636505, Fund No. 0001, Organization No. 1490, Program No. 2632, Sub Class No. S118.
