Title

Resolution directing the Department of City Development to develop preservation strategies for affordable housing as recommended in Section 4.5 of the Anti-Displacement Plan.

Analysis

This resolution directs the Department of City Development to develop preservation strategies for affordable housing as recommended in Section 4.5 of the Anti-Displacement Plan. The Department of City Development shall present these strategies to the Common Council within 90 days of adoption of this resolution.

 

Body

Whereas, At the direction of the Common Council, the Department of City Development created an Anti-Displacement Plan in 2018 which explored the degree to which displacement was occurring across Milwaukee neighborhoods; and

 

Whereas, The Anti-Displacement Plan also provided recommendations which would preserve housing opportunities for residents and curb displacement; and

 

Whereas, The 2021 Budget was adopted by Common Council File Number 200001 on November 24, 2020; and

 

Whereas, Amendment 41A to the 2021 Budget placed a footnote in the Budget stating, “The Department of City Development shall develop preservation strategies for affordable housing as recommended in Section 4.5 of the Anti-Displacement Plan; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of City Development shall develop preservation strategies for affordable housing as recommended in Section 4.5 of the Anti-Displacement Plan; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the Department of City Development shall present these strategies to the Common Council within 90 days of adoption of this resolution.
