Substitute resolution relating to implementation of a Street Lighting Fee.
Analysis
This resolution sets 2021 rates for the Street Lighting Fee.
Body
Whereas, Section 309-57 of the Code of Ordinances provides for a Street Light Cost Recovery Special Charge as authorized by s. 66.0627, Wis. Stats.; and
Whereas, The implementation of the special charge is intended to recover the annual expense of the City’s street light system, which benefits properties throughout the city; and
Whereas, Revenue generated by the special charge will be allocated specifically and exclusively to the operation and maintenance of the City’s street light system; and
Whereas, The special charge shall reflect only the annual expense of operating and maintaining the City’s street light system; and
Whereas, Section 309-57 of the Code requires adoption of a resolution on an annual basis that establishes the street light cost-recovery special charge; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the 2021 annual street light cost-recovery special charge is established in accordance with s. 309-57 of the Code, to be billed on the following quarterly basis:
1. Residential property: $1.01 per foot of street frontage - for residential property with multiple street frontage (corner lots), the shortest side shall be used for billing purposes.
2. Nonresidential property: $1.01 per foot of total street frontage.; and, be it
Further resolved, That no charge shall be imposed on property in any city block where street lights are not installed.
