Title

Resolution relating to expenditures from the Department of Public Works’ Reckless Driving Task Force Initiatives special fund.

 

Analysis

This resolution says that the Department of Public Works may use a consultant to develop a seed grant program that will provide funding to neighborhood groups to develop their own public service announcements related to reckless driving. It also says that the Comptroller is authorized to transfer such funds which are available for this purpose to appropriate Project/Grant accounts and that the Department of Public Works is authorized to use the funding as described.

 

Body

 

Whereas, Carjacking and reckless driving in the city and county have created significant risks to the health and safety of the community; and

 

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee recognizes a need for taking a proactive and prevention-oriented approach to decrease the number of carjacking and reckless driving incidents and cases; and

 

Whereas, The Common Council adopted Resolution File Number 181420 on January 14, 2019, creating a City-County Carjacking and Reckless Driving Task Force; and

 

Whereas, The City-County Carjacking and Reckless Driving Task Force issued its final report and recommendations in June, 2020; and

 

Whereas, Funds totaling $110,000 were appropriated in the City of Milwaukee’s 2020 Budget in the Department of Public Works’ Reckless Driving Task Force Initiatives special fund to begin implementing the task force’s recommendations; and

 

Whereas, The first recommendation of the Prevention and Education Subcommittee was to conduct public information campaigns; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Public Works may use a consultant to develop a seed grant program that will provide funding to neighborhood groups to develop their own public service announcements related to reckless driving; and be it

 

Resolved, That the Department of Public Works will work cooperatively the Health Department and the Office of the City Clerk; and be it

 

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to transfer such funds which are available for this purpose to appropriate Project/Grant accounts; and be it

 

Further Resolved, That the Department of Public Works is authorized to use the funding as specified in the above description of work.
