Substitute resolution authorizing the Department of Employee Relations to extend the current contracts for dental insurance benefits for City employees.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of Employee Relations to extend the current dental insurance contracts with Delta Dental and CarePlus Dental to provide dental benefits to City of Milwaukee employees.
Body
Whereas, Common Council File Number 170342 authorized the execution of contracts with Delta Dental and CarePlus Dental to provide dental insurance benefits for the City of Milwaukee for three years, commencing January 1, 2018 and ending December 31, 2020; and
Whereas, The current contract allows for a two year extension beginning January 1, 2021 and ending December 31, 2022; and
Whereas, Delta Dental has agreed to keep current dental premium rates flat for two years and CarePlus Dental has agreed to a five percent premium rate decrease that is guaranteed for two years; and
Whereas, Delta Dental and CarePlus Dental continue to provide good dental coverage options for City employees and satisfactory customer service; and
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee contributes a fixed amount of the total dental premium rate and the net cost to the City for the contract extension will remain flat; and
Whereas, The Department of Employee Relations is working to minimize disruptions to employee benefits as much as possible due to the COVID-19 pandemic and uncertainties with the fall open enrollment process; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the Department of Employee Relations is authorized to extend the current contract with Delta Dental and CarePlus Dental to provide employee dental benefits for an additional two years, commencing January 1, 2021 and ending December 31, 2022.
