Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of Public Works - Operations Division (Forestry Section) to accept and fund a Great Lakes Restoration Initiative grant from USDA Forest Service in the amount of $250,000 with a city share of $50,000 and a grantor share of $200,000. The purpose of the grant is to further diversify street tree canopy at risk of Emerald Ash Borer by removing and replacing 900 poor-to-fair condition ash street trees with alternative tree species and to install gravel holding beds at each of 3 Forestry District yards to build holding capacity for bare root trees.

Body
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from USDA Forest Service to further diversify street tree canopy by removing and replacing 900 poor-to-fair condition ash street trees and to install gravel holding beds at each of 3 Forestry District yards to build holding capacity for bare root trees; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant from 1/1/2020 to 12/31/2021 would cost $250,000 of which, $50,000 (20%) would be provided by the city and $200,000 (80%) would be provided by the grantor; now therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the Department of Public Works shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Section 304-81, of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:

1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2020 Special Revenue - Grant and Aid Projects the following amounts for the program/project titled Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Improving Resiliency of Milwaukee’s Street Trees:
