This resolution directs the Department of Administration - Information Technology Management Division to provide City e-mail addresses and cellular telephones to the commissioners of the Fire and Police Commission.

Body
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee Board of Fire and Police Commission (FPC) is a civilian body that oversees and prescribes general policies, standards, and rules in the Milwaukee Fire Department and the Milwaukee Police Department; and

Whereas, The FPC is considered to be one of the most powerful boards of its kind in the country, with the authority to independently investigate and monitor citizen complaints, hire and fire the police chief, audit internal Fire and Police Department investigations, and recruit and test prospective police and fire employees; and

Whereas, Commissioners of the FPC work on a part-time basis and are not provided office space in any City building; and

Whereas, Commissioners of the FPC do not have a City e-mail address, a City telephone, or a City voicemail, and are therefore unable to be formally contacted by City departments, the Common Council, or citizens who wish to voice their concerns; and

Whereas, Providing City e-mail addresses and telephones is an inexpensive way to ensure that commissioners are able to access vital information for their work and to share it amongst themselves; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Administration - Information Technology Management Division is directed to provide City e-mail addresses and cellular telephones to the commissioners of the Fire and Police Commission; and, be it
