Analysis

This resolution directs the Community Development Grants Administration and the Health Department to create a plan ensuring that CDBG award recipients are provided with training that aligns with the objectives of the Blue Print for Peace; a comprehensive, city-wide initiative rooted in a public-health approach to preventing many forms of violence by building on Milwaukee’s assets through coordinated strategies. The Community Development Grants Administration and the Health Department are directed to present the plan to the Common Council within 3 months of the resolution’s adoption.

 

Body

Whereas, The 2020 Adopted City Budget contains a footnote (Footnote #5) directing the Community Development Grants Administration and the Health Department to establish a plan to ensure that CDBG award recipients receive training that aligns with the objectives of the Blue Print for Peace; and

 

Whereas, A resolution is required to effectuate the intent of this footnote; and

 

Whereas, The Blueprint for Peace calls for strategic, long-term investment in improving conditions in those parts the city most impacted by violence; and

 

Whereas, The Blueprint is a city-wide initiative, which includes not only the City but also entities that receive funding though the City; and

 

Whereas, Violence reduction is a multifaceted problem that will require the collaboration of many individuals and entities; and

 

Whereas, Violence reduction is the responsibility of everyone within the Milwaukee community, including the many organizations that receive CDBG funding through the City; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Community Development Grants Administration and the Health Department are directed to create a plan to ensure that CDBG award recipients receive training that aligns with the goals and objectives of the Blueprint for Peace and to present the plan to the Common Council within 3 months of the adoption of this resolution.
