Title

Resolution relating to contact opportunities during the 2020 Democratic National Convention.

 

Analysis

This resolution directs the Mayor’s Office and the Department of City Development to provide a plan for leveraging corporate contact opportunities during the 2020 Democratic National Convention. 

 

Body

Whereas, The 2020 Adopted Budget included a Common Council-added footnote (Amendment 18) directing the Mayor’s Office and the Department of City Development to provide a plan for leveraging corporate contact opportunities during the Convention; and

 

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee was selected to host the 2020 Democratic National Convention (the “Convention”) in July of 2020; and

 

Whereas, The Convention is expected to draw up to 50,000 visitors to the City; and

 

Whereas, Representatives of diverse corporate interests from across the nation are expected to be among the visitors to Milwaukee; and

 

Whereas, The lead-up to and the week of the Convention provides an opportunity to showcase Milwaukee as the engine for the region’s economic, community and social development; and

 

Whereas, Likewise, the lead-up to and the week of the Convention present an opportunity for City officials to engage corporate representatives in person to promote investment in Milwaukee; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Mayor’s Office and Department of City Development shall report a plan for leveraging corporate contact opportunities during the 2020 Democratic National Convention to the Common Council; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the Mayor’s Office and the Department of City Development shall report their plan to the Common Council within 90 days of adoption of this resolution.
