Analysis

This resolution directs the Department of City Development to present a plan that will increase participation in and promote successful outcomes for the City’s Earn & Learn program.

 

Body

Whereas, The 2020 Adopted City Budget contains a footnote (Footnote #15), directing the Department of City Development to present a plan to increase participation and create successful outcomes for the City’s Earn & Learn program; and

 

Whereas, A resolution is required to effectuate the intent of this footnote; and

 

Whereas, The Earn & Lean program’s mission is to assist young people from Milwaukee in making a successful transition from adolescence into adulthood by developing job skills while gaining authentic work experience opportunities; and

 

Whereas, The Earn & Lean program is the largest single summer youth employment program in the City of Milwaukee, providing opportunities for around 1,000 teens every summer; and

 

Whereas, The Earn & Lean program represents a unique opportunity to interface with Milwaukee teens and provide them with the guidance and skills that will lead to fulfilling, gainful employment; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Common Council directs the Department of City Development to develop a plan to increase participation and create successful outcomes for the City’s Earn & Learn program and to present its findings within 4 months of adoption of this resolution.
