Analysis

This resolution directs the Health Commissioner and the Chief of Police to prepare a plan to use City resources to reduce violence in the city, and present the plan to the Common Council by April 30, 2020.

 

Body

Whereas, The Common Council approved the inclusion of a footnote in the 2020 Adopted City Budget, directing the Health Commissioner and the Chief of Police to prepare a plan to use City resources to reduce violence in the City; and

 

Whereas, Violence is both a public health and a public safety concern; and

 

Whereas, A concerted effort by both the Health Department and the Police Department offers the greatest potential for a systemic and long-lasting reduction in violence in the city; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of Milwaukee, that the Health Commissioner and the Chief of Police are directed to prepare a plan to use City resources to reduce violence in the city; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, This plan shall be presented to the Common Council by April 30, 2020.
