Resolution authorizing the Health Department’s Office of Violence Prevention to accept donation of gun locks from the Master Lock Company.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Health Department to accept a donation of 1,000 gun locks from the Master Lock Company to promote safe firearm storage. The intent of this partnership is to help prevent accidental shootings resulting from child access to unsecured firearms. These locks will be made available to Milwaukee residents through health centers and community partners, including the Southside Organizing Center, Team H.A.V.O.C, 414LIFE, Westcare, and select businesses.

Whereas, Section 304-24 of the Code of Ordinances regulates the receipt, appropriation, and expenditure of contributions received by the City; and
Whereas, The Master Lock Company has offered to donate 1,000 gun locks to the Health Department’s Office of Violence Prevention to promote safe firearm storage; and
Whereas, The intent of this partnership between the Health Department and the Master Lock Company is to help prevent accidental shootings resulting from child access to unsecured firearms; and
Whereas, These locks will be made available to Milwaukee residents through health centers and community partners, including the Southside Organizing Center, Team H.A.V.O.C., 414Life, Westcare, and select businesses; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Health Department is authorized to accept this donation of gun locks; and, be it
Further Resolved, That authority to accept donations shall continue unless otherwise rescinded or amended by future Common Council action.
