Analysis
This motion approves the renewal of a charter school contract with Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy for an additional 5-year term, beginning with the 2021-2022 school year and ending with the 2025-2026, as recommended by the Charter School Review Committee. The motion also approves the proposed charter school contract attached to this file and directs the appropriate City officials to execute the contract.
Body
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee, acting by its Common Council, is authorized under s. 118.40 (2r), Wis. Stats., to establish and monitor the operation of charter schools; and
Whereas, The Common Council has empowered the Charter School Review Committee to make recommendations to the Council regarding charter schools; and
Whereas, Common Council Resolution File Number 151622, adopted on March 29, 2016, authorized Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy, formerly operating as Milwaukee Collegiate Academy, to operate a Milwaukee Common Council charter school as provided under the Milwaukee charter school ordinance, ch. 330, Code of Ordinances, and the Wisconsin charter school statute, s. 118.40, Wis. Stats., beginning with the 2016-2017 school year and ending with the 2020-2021 school year; and
Whereas, The Charter School Review Committee, at its meeting of October 30, 2019, voted to recommend to the Common Council that the Charter City Contract between Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy and the City to be renewed for an additional 5-year term; now, therefore
It is moved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Common Council approves the Charter School Committee’s recommendation to renew the charter school contract with Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy for another 5-year term, beginning with the 2021-2022 school year and ending with the 2025-2026 school year; and
It is further moved, That the Common Council approves the proposed charter school 5-year contract submitted by the City Attorney and directs the appropriate City officials to execute the contract substantially in the form attached to this file; with such revisions as may be required by the City Attorney.
