Analysis

This resolution designates March 12, 2020, as Girls’ Day at City Hall in the City of Milwaukee. 

Body

Whereas, The Common Council is committed to increasing the number of women in public service in Milwaukee and beyond; and

 

Whereas, Since 2010, the City has held Girls' Day at City Hall each year to inspire Milwaukee’s youth by introducing middle and high school young women to the opportunities for women in public service and community leadership; and

 

Whereas, Girls' Day brings professionals who serve as elected officials and community service leaders together with teens to take part in interactive activities and discussions that help the students to realize the multiple ways they can impact the community; and

 

Whereas, The Girls’ Day at City Hall initiative exposes young women of high school and middle school age to strong female role models in political leadership positions as well as careers in public service; and

 

Whereas, The 9th Annual Girls’ Day event, on March 14, 2019, included speakers, panel discussions, and workshops in addition to opportunities for active engagement and involvement with several public service-oriented organizations and entities focused on young women and led by women; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Common Council designates March 12, 2020, as Girls’ Day at City Hall to recognize the importance of girls and young women in the community, and to empower them to overcome barriers to reaching their full potential as the next generation of leaders; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That City departments are directed to assist as necessary to make the annual Girls’ Day program a successful event.
