Body
Whereas, the firm of Napoli Shkolnik, PLLC, New York, NY, has extensive experience representing municipalities and counties in excess of 250 cases seeking damages and remedies in regard to the opioid epidemic in various state courts and in the multi-district litigation pending in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, Case No. 1:17-md-02804, and
Whereas, the firm of Napoli Shkolnik is a member of the plaintiff executive committee in the above referenced multi-district litigation, and has been actively involved in trial preparation and settlement negotiations, and
Whereas, the firm of Napoli Shkolnik has shown a commitment to diversity and inclusion with regard to their professional and support staff, and
Whereas the City Attorney has selected the firm of Napoli Shkolnik to represent the City of Milwaukee in regard to potential opioid litigation in either state or federal court, and the firm has agreed to represent the City for a contingent fee of 25% and cost reimbursement, payable only from and in the event of a successful recovery by trial or settlement in the City’s favor, now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee approves the selection of Napoli Shkolnik as outside counsel in regard to potential opioid litigation and authorizes the City Attorney to execute a contract consistent with this resolution.
