Title

Analysis

This resolution authorizes the City Clerk to expend up to $20,000 from the MKE Community Excellence Fund for Bronzeville Week.

 

Body

Whereas, The City has allocated $100,000 in funding in 2019 for a new MKE Community Excellence Fund Special Purpose Account; and

 

Whereas, The purpose of the Fund is to provide resources to support community events that promote peace and violence prevention, with the intention that allocations from the Fund will be matched by contributions from local organizations; and

 

Whereas, The Bronzeville Cultural and Entertainment District is a City of Milwaukee redevelopment initiative inspired by Milwaukee’s original Bronzeville District of the early- to mid-1900’s; and

 

Whereas, As the primary African-American economic and social hub of its time, Bronzeville brought all ethnicities together to celebrate African-American culture; and

 

Whereas, The 21st-century Bronzeville initiative strives to revitalize an area of Milwaukee where African-American culture has been a mainstay and offers unique opportunities for residents and tourists to enjoy the best Milwaukee has to offer in entertainment, arts and culture; and

 

Whereas, Bronzeville Week has been established as an official City event (Common Council File Number 170255), and August 3-10 has been designated as Bronzeville Week for 2019 (Common Council File Number 180953); and

 

Whereas, The City has received more than $20,000 in donations in support of Bronzeville Week; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City Clerk is authorized to expend up to $20,000 from the MKE Community Excellence Fund Special Purpose Account (0001 1310 S246 006300) for payment or reimbursement of expenses related to Bronzeville Week.
