Resolution authorizing an Agreement for the 2018/19 Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Task Force Program.

Analysis:

This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to enter into an agreement with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for overtime funding of the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Task Force Program in the amount of $165,093.75.  The purpose of this Program is to fund overtime expenses for nine officers assigned to the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Task Force whose purpose is to identify and target for prosecution criminal enterprise groups and/or individuals responsible for crimes of violence and to focus on the apprehension of dangerous fugitives where there may be a federal investigative interest.  This task force also enhances the effectiveness of other law enforcement resources through an initiative seeking the most effective investigative / prosecutable avenues to convict and incarcerate dangerous offenders.

Body:

 

Whereas, The term of the latest agreement expired on September 30, 2018; and

 

Whereas, The parties desire to extend the term of the agreement for an additional one-year term ending September 30, 2019 in the amount of $165,093.75; and

 

Whereas, The Police Department may enter into agreements exceeding $50,000 that have been approved by the Chief of Police as indicated in Section 312-26, Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; now therefore be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that this agreement extension with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, is authorized, and the Police Department shall accept these funds without further approval
