Minutes note: Mr. Tim Askin said the window was replaced with a glass block window in 2014 and this COA request is a result of a neighbor complaint. Staff recommends denial. Tom Proffitt - president of the congregation - this was done 5 years ago and no-one seemed to care. Pastor David Totsky Per Mr. Askin, this church is also part of the national register district. Per Ms. Hatala, there had been previous COAs, even applied for within the past year.

This resolution denies the appeal of the Certificate of Appropriateness to replace a basement window with glass block on the Center Street elevation at 2703 N. Sherman Boulevard in the Sherman Boulevard Historic District for Sherman Park Lutheran Church.

Whereas, The Historic Preservation Commission met on May 6, 2019 to consider retroactive approval to grant a Certificate of Appropriateness for replacing a basement window with glass block on the Center Street elevation at 2703 N. Sherman Boulevard in the Sherman Boulevard Historic District for Sherman Park Lutheran Church; and

 

Whereas, The Commission, by a vote of 4 ayes and two excused, voted to deny the application for a retroactive Certificate of Approval to replace a window with glass block  on the Center Street elevation for Sherman Park Lutheran Church; and,

 

Whereas,The applicant appealed the decision of the Commission to the Zoning, Neighborhood and Development Committee at its meeting of June 11, 2019; and

 

Whereas, The Committee, by a vote of five ayes and zero noes, upheld the decision of the Historic Preservation Commission;  now, therefore, be it,

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the appeal of the Certificate of Appropriateness for replacing a basement window with glass block on the Center Street elevation at 2703 N. Sherman Boulevard in the Sherman Boulevard Historic District for Sherman Park Lutheran Church is denied and the Historic Preservation Commission’s decision is affirmed.
