Substitute resolution relating to the inclusion of the Ignite the Spirit-Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Fire Honor Guard in the City of Milwaukee Employees’ Combined Giving Campaign.
Body
Whereas, The City’s Combined Giving Campaign is an annual fund drive in which City employees pool their resources to improve the quality of life in the Milwaukee community by contributing to umbrella groups of local nonprofit agencies, individual agencies within those umbrella groups, various designated unaffiliated agencies or other qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that provide health or human services in Wisconsin; and

Whereas, Ignite the Spirit-Milwaukee was established in 2018 to support Milwaukee firefighters and their families in times of need; and

Whereas, The purpose of Ignite the Spirit-Milwaukee is to proactively raise funds for Milwaukee firefighters and their families in times of need, providing emotional and monetary support to those who have had an unfortunate hardship; and

Whereas, Ignite the Spirit-Milwaukee is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization; and

Whereas, The Milwaukee Fire Honor Guard was established in 1996 to honor all MFD members and care for their families; and

Whereas, The purpose of The Milwaukee Fire Honor Guard is to provide an honor guard presence at MFD ceremonies and memorials, at every line-of-duty death (police or fire), stand guard with the deceased member, assist with funeral arrangements, and support the family of the deceased member with honor, integrity, distinction and respect; and

Whereas, The Milwaukee Fire Honor Guard is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the proper City officials are directed to take the actions necessary to ensure that Ignite the Spirit-Milwaukee is included as a participating recipient of donations in future City of Milwaukee Combined...
