Analysis

This resolution directs the Department of Public Works to recommend a plan for recycling water filters in the city.

Body

 

Whereas, The Health Department recommends that residents drink filtered water to avoid water-borne lead contamination; and

 

Whereas, The Health Department provides qualifying residents with free water filter starter kits; and

 

Whereas, The Department of Public Works provides curbside recycling services; and

 

Whereas, Many residents are concerned with the environment and wish to maximize recycling of all disposables; and

 

Whereas, Since January 2018, China has stopped accepting most types of recycling from the United States; and

 

Whereas, Recycling programs have become constrained as a result of foreign policy; and

 

Whereas, Recycling infrastructure in the United States is not currently capable of accepting the load created by China’s refusal to accept many recyclable materials from the United States; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Public Works is directed to recommend a plan to the Common Council for recycling water filters in the city; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the Department of Public Works is directed to report its plan to the Common Council by July 31, 2019.
