Analysis

This resolution directs the City Clerk to develop a pilot plan for a City merchandise retail outlet. The plan should have the intent of establishing a City Hall retail presence within 6 months.

Body

Whereas, Thousands of citizens, visitors, and tourists visit City Hall each year, and these guests frequently seek memorabilia or gifts to commemorate their visit or express pride in the City; and

 

Whereas, There is not currently a convenient one-stop location for individuals to purchase official City of Milwaukee merchandise; and

 

Whereas, Proceeds from the City merchandise retail outlet will be to be used to erect a statue commemorating the life and service of Vel Phillips; and

 

Whereas, The City Comptroller is authorized to establish an account to receive proceeds from the sale of merchandise from this retail outlet; and

 

Whereas, The City Comptroller is further authorized to transfer funds from this account to the Common Council-City Clerk Special Account, 001-1310-06000-D140 and the City Clerk’s Estimated Revenue Account 001-1310-0001-985101, up to the amount of $100,000; and

 

Whereas, The 2019 adopted City Budget contains a footnote directing the City Clerk to establish such a plan; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City Clerk shall develop a pilot plan for a City merchandise retail outlet with the intention of establishing a retail presence in City Hall within 6 months; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the City Clerk shall update the Common Council on the plan within 3 months of adoption of this resolution.
